Grab the popcorn, it's movie night thanks to MCPL! There are lots of great ways to enjoy movies
with MCPL, but we're especially excited about a service we just started providing. We are now offering our customers online, streaming movies through the on-demand service Kanopy. It's free with your MCPL card. Each MCPL cardholder can access up to 10 films per month.
Kanopy offers more than 30,000 films. The collection includes award-winning documentaries, rare and hard-to-find titles, film festival favorites, indie and classic films, and international cinema. I recently watched The Rabbi's Cat, a film based on a best-selling graphic novel, about a rabbi and his sharp-tongued, philosophically-minded cat. I look forward to seeing Kedi: the Cats of an Ancient City, about the thousands of street cats that live in Istanbul.
Kanopy also has a kid-friendly Kanopy Kids mode that includes full length films, television series, book based videos, and language learning videos. I enjoyed watching the Academy Award winning short film Mr. Hublot—about a lonely, fastidious man who adopts a rambunctious robot dog—with my daughter. Alas, she prefers movies with dialog and was happier when we watched Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.

There's lots of ways to browse and search Kanopy. The front page of Kanopy offers a colorful collage of movie covers highlighting new films, popular movies, world cinema, popular documentaries and more. You can use the search box to search for films by title or topic. There's also a very robust browse feature that lets you browse the collection by many different criteria. The broader browsing categories include movies, documentaries, the arts, business, education, global studies & languages, instructional films, and more. These broader categories each have more specific subcategories, such as comedy, science fiction, and early film under the movies category.
The Kanopy collection tends toward independent films and documentaries. To meet your needs for more pop culture feature films, MCPL offers a collection of movies and television series on DVD. You can find these films by searching our catalog. There's a link on the catalog's homepage to the latest feature film DVD's and television series DVDs. My wife recently used MCPL's DVD collection to enjoy Marshall, the 2017 movie about one of US Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall's first cases of his legal career.
Theatre lovers should try our Theatre in Video service. Stream over 250 performances of the world's leading plays, Watch the works of Arthur Miller, Eugene O'Neill, William Shakespeare, and more.
Finally, there's a book-related video service just for kids, Bookflix. Read along with video renditions of books such as Bear Snores On, Click, Clack, Moo, and Lon Po Po. Each storybook video is paired with a non-fiction book related to the topic of the story.
